What happened on 27th August?

2019: Ian Fitzpatrick, our Head of Design, celebrated 40 years service at Lattimer. Congratulations from the Lattimer Board of Directors and fellow members of staff to this great achievement! Not only did Ian Fitzpatrick design the Lattimer pusher and the first belt driven take out arm, more recently he also developed the Lattimer aluminium blowheads with the steel quick change backs and neckring arm technology with hardened blocks.
1985: 20th Space Shuttle Mission Discovery 6 was launched.
1979: In Northern Ireland 18 British militia died in ambush and bomb attack at Warrenpoint, South Down.
1955: The Guinness Book of World Records was first published.
1883: Krakatoa, the island volcanoe in Indonesia, erupted. The resulting tidal waves killed many people in Java and Sumatra.
1776: The Americans were defeated by the British in the Battle of Long Island, New York.
1576: Venetian painter Titian dies of the plague. His handling of colour and mastery of new oil techniques made him one of the greatest painters of the Renaissance.
